the poor didn't want this one

I watched The Sound of Music with my sister this afternoon, although she slept through the second half of it. I hadn't watched it in so long but it'd been mentioned in a surprisingly large number of conversations recently so Jes and I set out on a great expedition searching through a number of our cupboards and draws until we finally discovered it wedged among our video of the lion king and a varying assortment of cassette tapes.

I'd forgotten how awesome Captain Von Trapp ends up being in the end. One of my fave parts is where the Captain and Maria dance together outside on the patio. They do this really beautiful dance and it reminds me of all the dances they do in Jane Austen movies and BBC period dramas.

I really wish stuff like this still happened. Some people might argue that it still does, you know, girls wearing pretty dresses and drawing the attention of that certain dashing boy (or some not so dashing) but i don't buy it. Sometimes life seems like it was easier back then. Go to some dances, pick a rich husband, maybe go against the flow and marry for love, or even better fall for a rich guy who also happens to be extremely handsome! Or perhaps my ideas have been slightly misguided by the delightful novels of Miss Austen, but surely only slightly (be sure to read that last bit with sarcasm) But seriously, Mr Darcy, if you happen to be reading this, wanna hang out some time? i'd settle for James McAvoy if i had to.

I really do think though that i have to stop watching so many movies and tv shows where everything always works out. My idea of romance is distorted beyond repair in a way that reality will never be able to live up to my imagination. I think this may have happened to the rest of the world though too. I think i was talking to Rosie about this the other day but society nowadays just doesn't get it. They don't understand that life doesn't always work out the way it does it movies and they also don't get how relationships aren't like iphones where you'll just dump your old one to get an upgrade in 12 months time. Society sucks that way.

On a better note hitting up the city and the MCA with Elle tomorrow. Looking forward to it except it means i'll have to be out of bed before midday :P It also probably means quite a bit of money spending. But if i really do intend to be out of bed by midday i'd better be finishing this off and getting to sleep. And so with that in mind...

Bye.
