i told you i'd meet a man from the future

just wanted to post some pics of the banquet we had last night. we made lemon and thyme chicken breast wrapped with prosciutto from a recipe by the lovely jamie oliver. steph came over too.

mmm...salad. sun dried tomatoes are now my favourite food in the whole world.

we also watch this movie called 'my sassy girl' with jesse bradford in it. jes and steph thought it was a bit too weird but i though it was really cute. it was about this guy charlie falling in love with this girl jordan, who was pretty much a nutcase but it turned out that she'd been engaged to charlie's cousin who looked a lot like him so she'd been doing all the stuff with charlie that she used to do with her fiancee...actually it's too hard to explain- it's ok though because they end up together at the end. i really liked it mostly cause it had really great cinematography, it was a bit indie actually.

apparantly it's actually a remake of some korean movie...huh...

jes and i made our traditional trip to grandma's house, traditional in the sense that that's what we did when jes got her p's.

don't go on the big dipper, people die.

saw josh pyke at the big top at luna park last night. he was basically awesome. jes got me tickets for my birthday so now that they've been used i guess my birthday is officially over.

josh was great. he started off by himself playing acoustic. the only bad part about this were the stupid-crap-obnoxious-annoying-selfish-douchey idiots who were standing next to us who were talking SO loudly through the entire thing. it was really hard to get away from them cause we could see really well from where we were but luckily the was this awesome-brilliant-fantastic-cool guy who told them to either go up the back or shut up. they shut up after that.

support acts were fergus brown and gin wigmore who were both really good. gin has an amazing voice. i'm also convinced that a couple of the guys from dappled cities were in josh's band but don't quote me on that...

he sung every song jes and i wanted him to, which rocked, plus a few more that we didn't know, mostly because we don't own his first album, as well as some new ones which have now got me really excited about the new album he's bunkering down to make. we also managed to score (well not really score, i guess buy would be a more accurate description) a tote bag each and jes even bought a tea towel. oh how i love band merch :)

sorry if this vid is a bit crap. my camera sucks. but this is my fave song so i just had to film it.

it's not all clouds and cream cheese

so i had a pretty intense art theory lesson at school today. we started looking at the contemporary world and culture and art's role within it. its all pretty interesting stuff about globalisation and pop culture vs. high culture and the rapid change that is occurring all over the world.

the stuff that stuck with me however is all the bits we wrote down under 'values and beliefs'- about how the world has these increased expectations for their standard of living and how everyone's focus has moved from survival to possessing the 'good things' in life. then we got on to how technology gives you power and how the contemporary religion is money. this is where i get most concerned because its the truth. today's secular society puts their faith and hopes and dreams in money and success and possessions and what do they really expect to come from it?? do they think they can take it with them?? they can't even hold on to it while their still alive!! global financial crisis anyone?? and yet society continues to believe that money is worth putting their faith in. its not even just money too, its success and power and all this worldly crap that isn't gonna last and even if it does they won't!

its times like these that i'm most thankful that i have something to put real hope in.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God - Isaiah 40:30-31

And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1

God is a real source of hope, hope that this isn't everything there is. i feel sorry for the people who think that this is all there is cause none of this is worth it. but then there's the people who think there is more, more for everyone! they think that heaven is just the next step. they choose to ignore the fact that hell exists too. they're all convinced that they're all going to heaven, that they're all good enough but no one is. we're all sinners. people really expect that they can get somewhere as perfect as heaven off their own effort and hard work? they have to be kidding. what do they think heaven is anyway?? a bunch of fluffy clouds akin to the philadelphia ad?? a bunch of angels with feathery wings serenading them with harps?? everyone is born into the sinful nature of man but luckily-

'God demonstrated his love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.' - Romans 5:8

we have a loving God who was willing to give up his only son for our sake. that's what gives me real hope. and that's the only thing worthy of real hope.

if you're 30 you should have plates

last night was so awesome! headed out to manning bar at sydney uni with jes and polly to see joshua radin. he absolutely rocked.

i have to say its the best show i've been to in a while. he was so talkative and really honest . he talked heaps about the stories behind his songs which meant he talked quite a bit about his ex-girlfriends which i wasn't expecting. he was also really funny too.

he kept commenting on how quite the audience was but i think that was just because we were all hanging on to every word he said and every lyric for that matter.

and seeing joshua with these lovely ladies made it all the more delightful.

its kinda weird the number of people who don't know who joshua radin is considering his many appearances on the soundtracks of tv shows and movies like scrubs and grey's anatomy and catch and release. oh well, i guess it was his lack of repute in aus that allowed me to get a ticket. i did almost miss out considering the show was originally meant to be at oxford art factory and it was only going to be 18+ but when that sold out he decided to move it to manning and luckily it became all ages. i must now pay my compliments to drum media for alerting me of this fact, i have never loved that magazine more.

he was so good. can't wait to see him next time he's in sydney.

damn this writing, i'd rather sleep.

so i finally looked up the cast of 'tomorrow when the war began'. at last they've got them all up but now i'm not quite sure what to think. i have absolutely adored john marsden's series since primary school and i remember how elle and i always said that they should turn them into movies but we were convinced they would be r rated and we'd never be able to see them, to be fair we were like 11 at the time.

and now they've put real faces to the characters i have created for myself and i can't decide if their good enough for my imagination or not

well here are the boys and i reckon chris is great but maybe that's just because i don't particularly like him and am not that invested in his physical embodiment. i've gotten used to the fact that lincoln lewis is kevin but i'm not convinced that he's manly enough - maybe that's just his character on home and away. oh well at least he's not too bad looking. now homer, i think he's turned out alright as long as he gets a haircut. he doesn't really match what i pictured but he was really not greek in my imagination so i'm ok with that. i have to say lee is my biggest disappointment but that's only because he's my fave. however i hear that chris pang, who's playing lee, is learning piano for the role which does get him some extra points.

don't like caitlin stasey as ellie. not at all really. hopefully she'll change my mind in the actual movie but for now, no. i imagined her blonder, well not really blonde but with pretty light hair at least and i just don't think caitlin's white enough. i also have to say that caitlin is the one i'm most disappointed with mainly because ellie is the most important character in the WHOLE thing and they got her wrong, well in my opinion anyway. but like i said hopefully she'll change my mind

ah, fi and robyn. you get my tick of approval. robyn is just brilliant, so close to what i pictured and fi is really good because a) that's what she's meant to look like, b)she was always going to look different to what i pictured cause i always pictured her as asian for some weird reason which she clearly wasn't and c) jes always tried to tell me she was blonde to counteract my asian argument but it never said that in the books so i'm glad she's not.

and last but not least (well least australian anyway)

corrie. rachel hurd-wood. now i can't say i like her because i have always held a deep hatred for her ever since she starred as wendy in the 2003 version of peter pan and she got to kiss jeremy sumpter but all that's not really relevant now is it?? but i think she'll be alright. i am however slightly peeved that they couldn't find an australian to play corrie but at least she should be a good actress with all her experience and whatnot etcetera and hencefore. i must also admit that i'm quite a fan of her red hair but i always pictured corrie with curls.

so there they are. hopefully the don't screw it all up too badly but i don't think they will considering john marsden wouldn't let them make the film till they came up with a good enough screenplay so if he approves it can't be too much of a massacre surely.

its meant to come out in 2010 sometime so now the countdown begins...

pizza and princes

at last! photos are up! rosie did beat me to blogging but i'm going to post anyway.

had an awesome day on friday. got to go to tom's house for some famous homemade gourmet pizza and hang with tom, jes, rosie and bella.

it's times like these that i'm especially thankful for the relationships that God blesses us with.

friday night was our dg sleepover which was awesome fun as was the fundraiser bush dance last night for the beach mission jes is going on.

today was good too. went to the movies with rosie to see the young victoria which was absolutely brilliant. i love emily blunt.

and so this brings me to the end of school holidays and the beginning of the dreaded year 12. can't say i'm exactly looking forward to it all but it's inevitable so roll with it i say.
